The Effects of Rejection

Most don’t talk about it, because they can’t even identify the source of it. “It” is pain and the source of “it” is rejection. How you react to the hurt of rejection can further complicate your life and give added advantage to the devil. He does not play fair, therefore he will do anything within his power and right to destroy whatever good is left within your heart, family, children and/or legacy. Rejection is the most common and most neglected wound in a person’s soul. The sting of rejection, causes hidden compartments of the heart to be covered by anything and everything possible in order to avoid feeling that particular pain again. Rejection is a spiritual pain that manifests in the natural being of man. God made man as one being with three distinct sections: spirit, soul and body. When the spirit of a man is crushed, the flesh (body) bears resemblance of such pain.
“The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity (sickness, disease, weakness) but a wounded spirit who can bear?” Proverbs 18:14
It is the wounding of your personality, that opens doors for unclean spirits to enter. This happens whenever a person is denied necessary love. Sin wounds us. Words wound us. Actions wound us. There’s no timetable for rejection. It can occur at any time in one’s life, from conception onward. From the beginning, the DNA of mankind has been to give and receive love. It’s was created to work in constant cycles of repetition. A person is able to give love after learning how to receive love….unfortunately a glitch temporarily interrupted that cycle until Jesus repaired it. The good news is: REJECTION CAN BE OVERCOME!!!

Rejection is overcome by:
  1. Filing yourself with the things of God
  2. Becoming secure in God’s love
  3. Taking the counsel of God’s Word to repent and forgive
  4. Being cleansed by demonic activity
  5. Learning to give and receive love
Don’t continue to live ignorant of the source (rejection), which has caused unhealthy personality adjustments in your life. Examples of unhealthy personality adjustments are:

When a person is void of love, anything other than love becomes a false solution to alleviate the hurt felt from being rejected. In an effort to search for love, a wounded person sees life through a different lens. It is very common for the wounded person to be unable to prevent their pain from projecting onto others, which causes a lifetime of regrets. They see employers, partnerships, friendships, church leadership and even family members differently all because of the lens of rejection. Here are a few common responses to deep wounds of rejection:

  5. FEARS
  6. GUILT
The only remedy given for this convoluted source of pain and dysfunction from rejection is FORGIVENESS. Forgiveness is the manifestation of love. It’s where you can manifest love even when you’ve never received it. No matter how much someone has wounded you, at some point you will have to come to a place of being able to release forgiveness to that person. The scripture identifies the ramifications if one withholds forgiveness. Matthew 18:23-35 tells us that if we do not forgive people, we get turned over to the tormentors. If you have a problem in this area or have ever had one, I’m sure you bear witness with what I’m saying. It’s torture to have hateful thoughts toward another person rolling around inside your head. You’re hurting, but you will be the one who pays the highest price!! You cannot afford to let anyone destroy you (because you can’t or won’t forgive) and therefore can’t heal from the original damage caused. God has no law against forgiving others, and expressed forgiveness actually slams shut the devil’s door of opportunity! Even though the trespass against you may be severe, repeated and totally unjustified, forgiveness is still the ONLY response that God will accept. You can overcome!

I wrote a prayer to help you on your journey. The truth is, effectual and fervent prayers of a righteous (right standing) person avails much. Meaning, if you truly believe and persist in prayer while getting in order with God, your prayers will be heard and requests granted. Decide today to let the spiritual filthiness of unforgiveness go by being washed by the Blood of the Lamb and the Word of God.
Heavenly Father, I (say your name) come before you humbly requesting that you see the status of my heart. Whether I recall or do not recall the sources of rejection in my life, I would like to be set free from all unhealthy byproducts left behind within the confines of my heart. I confess, I have unforgiveness within my heart towards _____________________ and acknowledge it has bothered me. You require forgiveness as the healing agent to rejection, and I have willfully disobeyed. Please forgive me Father! Today, as an act of my free will, I release__________(say the person’s name) to you Lord. I free each person I’ve mentioned from being a hostage to my bitterness. I will no longer live with unhealthy personality adjustments and constant emotional roller coasters in order to make it one more day. Lord, I want to be loved by you and reciprocate that love to others. I ask for your forgiveness today as well as your mercy for the areas I have not confessed, and grace to shower me during the healing process. I surrender my heart for total restoration and cleansing, even if that means dealing with the contents of my heart as they surface. You are Emmanuel, God with us, therefore I know I will not be alone during this process. Thank you Jesus for not only being my Healer, but also my Savior!  Holy Spirit I invite you into my heart to be my Comforter in every season I face going forward. I ask all of these things in Jesus name. Amen.”

  1. Ciara this is so good! It hits at the meat of how we as people struggle and cope with rejection. Thank God that we can be set free! Therefore if the Son sets free, you really will be free. John 8:36
Having had this as a stronghold in my life, I can look back and attest to how much I wanted to maintain a sense of control in all areas of my life especially through perfectionism. It was my security blanket! In all actuality, it was cement walls of protection around my heart to protect me from being hurt. Praise be to God that he has healed so many of those areas through his unfailing love of his imperfect daughter.

    Continue the good fight!!
